01/24/13 - Cubadebate (Habana) - Cable submarino ALBA 1 está operativo y se comienzan pruebas para tráfico de internet

El sistema de telecomunicaciones ALBA-1, que enlaza mediante cable
submarino de fibra óptica a Cuba con Venezuela y Jamaica está operativo
desde el mes de agosto del 2012, inicialmente cursando tráfico de voz
correspondiente a telefonía internacional.

Desde el pasado 10 de enero se comenzaron a ejecutar las pruebas de
calidad de tráfico de Internet sobre dicho sistema. Las mismas se realizan
utilizando tráfico real desde y hacia Cuba, con el fin de normalizar esta
vía de comunicación.

Cuando concluya el proceso de pruebas, la puesta en operación del cable
submarino no significará que automáticamente se multipliquen las
posibilidades de acceso. Será necesario ejecutar inversiones en la
infraestructura interna de telecomunicaciones y aumentar los recursos en
divisas, destinados a pagar el tráfico de Internet con el propósito de
lograr el crecimiento paulatino de un servicio que brindamos hoy en su
mayoría gratuitamente y con objetivos sociales.
