01/25/13 - Agencia de Información Nacional (Habana) - Farmer Association Replaces over 600 Cooperative Executives
HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 25 (ACN) In tune with the need to strengthen the performance
of farmer cooperatives towards higher results, the National Small Farmer
Association replaced or released 632 cooperative presidents from their posts.
The measure was taken during the 8th plenary session of the organization.
No cooperative can achieve good results without the appropriate performance by
farmer leaders, said the president of the organization Felix Gonzalez during the
plenary session, according to Granma newspaper.
In the face of such a challenge, the training of cooperative executives was a
major issue considered by participants at the meeting.
Agriculture minister Gustavo Rodriguez said that cooperative leaders may take
training courses offered by the ministry on technical and juridical subjects,
which are necessary for the everyday performance of the agricultural entities.
Rodriguez stressed the need to permanently overview contractual relations
between cooperatives and state entities and the adaptation of contracts to
current conditions in each entity.
Association president Felix Gonzalez recalled that a major objective of the
organization for 2013 is the training of a larger number of young executives to
guarantee a source of leaders and increase food production.
