BY ROMOKE W. AHMAD, 5 SEPTEMBER
Nigeria and Cuba have signed an agreement on visa waiver
requirement for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
This is expected to boost bilateral relations between the countries.
The agreement was signed during the recent official visit of the Minister
of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, to the Republic of Cuba at
the instance of his Cuban counterpart Mr. Rodriguez Parilla.
The ministry said in a statement that apart from holding bilateral
discussions with Mr. Parilla, Ashiru also met with Mr. Rodrigo Malmierca
Diaz, Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, and Mr. Ricardo Cabrisas
Ruiz, Vice President, Council of Ministers of Cuba.
Ashiru expressed admiration for Cuba's strides in the fields of science,
medicine and biotechnology.
He pledged to work with Mr. Diaz by improving the low level of economic
interactions between both countries.
Diaz informed Ashiru that an invitation has been extended to Mr. Olusegun
Aganga, the minister of Trade and Investment, to participation in the
forthcoming 31st edition of the Havana International Trade Fair in November
noting that it would boost trade relations between both countries.
