09/19/13 - AIN (Havana) Mayor of Richmond in Solidarity with Cuban Antiterrorists
Havana, Cuba, Sep 18.- The mayor of the city of Richmond, California, Gaile McLaughlin, championed on Tuesday more international solidarity with the four Cubans that are still incarcerated in the United States for fighting terrorism.
Solidarity is very important to obtain their freedom, asserted McLaughlin, who on Tuesday accompanied Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa for a visit to one of the areas contaminated by the Texaco-Chevron Oil Company in the Amazonian jungle, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The mayor said that she continues to be very much linked to the cause of The Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez are known internationally in the campaign for their release. The fifth member of the group, Rene Gonzalez, served his sentence plus a period of supervised release in U.S. territory and hes already in Cuba after relinquishing his U.S. citizenship.
Two years ago we approved a resolution at Richmonds city hall to demand their freedom, recalled McLaughlin, who announced that she plans to visit Cuba in December, an occasion she will take advantage of to meet with relatives of The Five.(ACN)
