Cuban Architecture Shows Moorish Traces

Cairo, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Moorish influence in Cuban architecture

three poems related to the Arab culture, written by national Hero Jose
Marti, on the occassion of the Cuban Culture Day.

Cuban Charge D'Affair Vladimir Gonzalez said the display was

Cuba Enjoys Free Determination Despite Blockade

United Nations, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba expressed here that free
determination is the most important right that Cubans enjoy despite
hostility and the blockade imposed by the United States.

This statement was made by permanent ambassador to the UN, Pedro
Nunez Mosquera, in the Third Commission of the General Assembly that debates
promotion and protection of human rights and application of international
mechanisms in this field.

He also pointed out that the most important right has been assured
for the Cuban people that is the full exercise of their right to free
determination, confronting obstacles and threats of hostility and blockade
of successive US administrations.

He added that Cuban achievements in healthcare, education, science
and technology, culture and sports are possible because ó we own our own
political destiny and resources of the country through participative
democracy that the people themselves designed and voted for in a universal
referendum. ó

He added that today more than 50,000 health, sports and education
professionals offer services to 99 countries and four territories across the
seas.

Nunez Mosquera also repeated the permanent will of Cuba to hold frank
and open talks on subjects of human rights and listed the many protocols
signed in this field.

We have always defended the noble causes of the people and the
importance of granting priority to economic, social and cultural rights that
are equal to civilian and political rights, he pointed out.

He also ratified the commitment of his country to cooperate with
universal, non discriminatory, non selective and non politicized mechanisms
in the subject of human rights.

We hope that the previous scenario of sanctions against countries of
the south with automatic impunity granted by countries of the south is not
repeated in the current system of UN human rights, he concluded.

Cuba Gets African Support Against US Blockade

United Nations, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuba noted in the UN the
support of Africa in the confrontation to the blockade imposed by the United
States against the island that has lasted half a century.

Africa has closed ranks demanding 17 times in the General Assembly
the right of the Cuban people to decide their own future, expressed the ad
interim representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Rodolfo Benitez.

In a speech to the plenary session of the highest organization of the
UN the Cuban official expressed certainty that support of the Island will
continue after 28 repetitions when the Assembly again hears the US siege.

After recalling the ties that have lasted more than five centuries
between Cuba and Africa, Benitez exclaimed that it is impossible to imagine
the political, historical and cultural of Cuba ó without recalling the mark
in our genes and social life. ó

Referring to this matter he expressed homage of the Island to the
memory of the rebel spirit of African lucumíes, carabalíes, congos, gangas,
mandingas, minas, bibíes and yorubas.ethnic groups.

The Cuban people are direct and natural heirs of the bravery and
culture of resistance of Africa that has fought heroically for centuries
against challenges and threats that still exist today, he said.

He recalled that more than 381,000 Cuban soldiers and officials
marched selflessly in defense of the integrity and sovereignty of African
nations for almost three decades.

services in 35 African nations in the fields of healthcare, education,
sports, agriculture and construction, among others.

sighs of the powerful and called for a change of the current international
system.

It is a system that demands African nations to pay exorbitant foreign
debts and that the powerful multi nationals fight for control of the mineral
resources of the continent, he explained.

the international community and called on the UN to use a comprehensive
focus to solve the problems of peace, security and development in the
continent.
