today in Beijing its National Culture Day with a ceremony that awarded
three young Chinese university students who won a competition held to
celebrate the 160th birth anniversary of National Hero, José Martí.
The ceremony was atended by the Secretary of the Council of State of Cuba,
Homero Acosta, Deputy Minister of Culture of China Wang Tie, and the
Ambassador of the Asian country in Havana, Zhang Tuo, along with officials
from state agencies and the Communist Party of China and numerous friends.
Acosta is in Beijing on a working visit to China as part of the exchange
of mutual experiences on the socialist construction in both countries,
this time focusing on legal and institutional issues.
Ambassador Alberto Blanco said that culture has represented the soul and
the shield of the Cuban nation and was formed with influences from all

In his welcome words address to attendees, the diplomat recalled that
despite "the inperial theories and geographic fatalism," Cuba has survived
the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the longest blockade against
any country in history, imposed by the United States.

for the Cuban Embassy in China to mark the 160th anniversary of the birth

The first prize, is a stay in Cuba (five nights and six days) for two

from the University of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province.
The ceremony for the Cuban culture in Beijing concluded with a performance
by soprano Linda Pujie, who played Guantanamera and Siboney, songs thar
were composed in 1929 by the famous Cuban musician Ernesto Lecuona .
